Announce establishment of a Mother Industry at Jammu: CCI writes to PM

Business EconomyPosted at: Jan 30 2020 9:40PM Jammu, Jan 30 (UNI) The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the establishment of “Mother Industry” in the Jammu region.
“In a communication to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have listed our demands which should be taken up for consideration in the upcoming Union Budget,” JCCI President Rakesh Gupta told reporters.
He said that Jammu region has been ignored and discriminated against since 1947 and added, “we urge your good-self to intervene personally and do some justice to the business community here and the people at large by announcing some special specified allocations and projects for the Jammu province”.
“We expect the Union Government to announce the establishment of a “Mother Industry” at Jammu which would be a great step towards not only attracting the private industrialists but also give thousands of jobs to the jobless youth in the province,” Mr Gupta told reporters.
He further requested to the government that while announcing these special incentives for the setting up of industries, the government should spread out the entire process over a period of at least 15 years for disbursement and not to link it with investment in plant and machinery.
Mr. Gupta also requested that the centre allocate funds to develop the infrastructure to enable the setting up of the industries in Jammu and said, “we also demanded establishment of an Inland Container Depot near Jammu on a war footing.”
The chamber’s list of demands also included setting up of an IT Park in or around Jammu and the announcement of social security system for the approximately 5 percent income tax payers as it would encourage the honest tax payers to pay their taxes and contribute towards nation building.
“It is also requested that the existing Industrial Units established by the J&K residents should be given special protection by incorporating provisions like mandatory preferential purchase by the government and semi government projects so that they could survive the competition from the big existing and the new industries that would be coming up in J&K,” he added.
Mr Gupta said that we also requested that the incentives should not only be for the establishment of new industrial units, but also for the existing units like increasing the audit limit under the GST regime from the present Rs 2 crore to at least Rs 5 crore which would be a great relief to the small businesses.
“We also urge the government to kindly address a human issue, such as providing medical insurance cover for the differently abeld people who have been discriminated against,” he said
