CM to present budget on Feb 6

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds finance portfolio, will present budget for 2020-21 on February 6 in the state legislative assembly. The five-day budget session will begin on February 3.

He announced the date for the budget presentation after
chairing a meeting of the business advisory committee at the assembly complex
on Monday.

Sawant also launched a web portal http://www.goaonline.gov.in
for inviting ideas and suggestions from citizens for the forthcoming annual
budget 2020-21.

Sawant said that for the first time the state has taken
up the initiative for eliciting ideas and suggestions from citizens, especially
the youth, so that the ideas and suggestions could help the government prepare
the budget for inclusive, sustainable and overall development of the state.

“As of now, many people and associations have submitted
their suggestions through memorandums and emails. Some of the people have met
me personally in the office. As a step towards participative and transparent
governance, the government has decided to invite ideas and suggestions from
citizens for the budget 2020-21,” he explained.

Sawant said that his government wants to present a good
budget which will take care of every sector – from agriculture to information
technology.

“We also want suggestions from the citizens for
rejuvenating the state economy. So, the government expects to get ideas and
suggestions from Opposition parties and non-governmental organisations as
well,” he added.

The Chief Minister observed that there are some NGOs
which oppose   projects by moving the
court, adding that “the government expects suggestions from NGOs for the
overall development of the state”.

Furthermore, Sawant said that this time the focus of the
budget will not be on job creation, but on Goa’s sustainable and inclusive
development.

The government will consider the mining industry as a
source of revenue generation, but not in a very big way, he maintained.

Sawant said the an assessment is being carried out on the
last year’s budget, which will help the government understand  as where it could not do much and what have
been the reasons for it.

The Chief Minister informed that an action taken report
on the last year’s budget will be presented on the floor of the state
legislative assembly during the budget session.

The last date for submitting the ideas and suggestions on
the budget is January 31, 2020.
